Reflexology

Reflexology is recognised as a complimentary health therapy, dating back within the medical profession to the early 1900s.

The practice of reflexology can be effective in providing a state of deep relaxation and wellbeing; aiding a reduction of stressing people's lives, optimising good health and energy levels

Reflexology is a gentle and non-invasive touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands or ears correspond with different areas of the body.

Reflexologists work these points and areas by applying gentle pressure to the reflexes, encouraging the body to heal itself whilst enabling it to restore and maintain its natural balance.

Reflexology is suitable for almost anybody of any age, from babies to the older person. Treatment may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions too.

Clinical Reflexology vs Therapeutic Reflexology

- What's the Difference?

Clinical Reflexology

This method of reflexology originates from the medical profession and is practiced by those who hold the CRM5 qualification. These practitioners are often referred to as 'Clinical Reflexologists'. This is the highest qualification in reflexology and practitioners specialise in areas such as fertility, maternity, cancer, palliative care, menopause and other specific areas.

A top tip when searching for a Clinical Reflexologist is to search for a member of the 'Association of Reflexologists' and whom are displayed on their 'find a reflexologist' page. All of those listed on this page are members of the AOR and have met approved standards.

Therapeutic Reflexology

These practitioners are not trained or qualified to clinical methods, they instead focus on comfort and relaxation, services often found in spa and beauty settings.

Both methods of Reflexology of course have their place and clients should complete their own research before finding a practitioner.
